Who We Are
Ethan and Shaina met in 2021 while participating in a Katonah Yoga mentorship with Abbie Galvin, Owner of The Studio. They bonded over their love of Katonah Yoga and serendipitous coincidences of both growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, spending much of their adult life living in the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill neighborhoods of Brooklyn, and the shared experience of a Jewish upbringing. In 2025, Shaina visited Sedona and was guided up to Cathedral Rock by Ethan. The experience sparked the first inklings of building a retreat together. Both are ecstatic to offer their first retreat together as a team.
About Ethan
Ethan’s passion for yoga began in 2011 while searching for a way to heal chronic back pain following scoliosis surgery. What started as physical rehabilitation soon evolved into a lifelong practice that supported both bodily wellbeing and mental calm, and ultimately led him to share yoga with others.
He started teaching in 2017 in Brooklyn and has since worked with students across a range of settings, drawing from modalities including Vinyasa, Yin, and Katonah Yoga. His classes offer practical structure through maps, metaphor, and geometry, inviting students to cultivate mobility, stability, and awareness on and off the mat. He practices the mantra; asana builds the cup, breath fills the cup, and meditation is taking the drink — a process of embodiment that unfolds gradually and personally.
Now based in and deeply connected to Sedona, Ethan brings a genuine love for the land and its restorative healing power into his teaching. His favorite part about living amongst the gorgeous Red Rocks of Sedona is sharing it with others. He creates grounded, supportive experiences that encourage participants to slow down, listen inward, and engage with the transformational qualities many feel when practicing in this unique set and setting. His intention is to help retreat guests leave feeling integrated, present, and more at home within themselves.
About Shaina
Shaina found yoga in her early 20s to help her cope while caretaking for her father, Robert, who was living with Parkinson’s Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia. Her time on the mat allowed her to calm her mind while managing his care. When Robert passed in 2020, Shaina joined a 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher training to experience connection and community in a time of isolation while processing her grief. Although she joined the training with no intentions to teach, she came out the other side with a passion to share her insights of the practice with others.
In 2021, Shaina started training in Katonah Yoga at The Studio and Katonah Yoga Center, and began teaching shortly after. She’s completed mentorships with world-renowned teachers Abbie Galvin and Mary Dana Abbott of The Studio and Katonah Yoga Center. In 2023, she also completed an Apprenticeship with Abbie Galvin. Over the years, Shaina has amassed over 1500 hours in training specific to Katonah Yoga, with emphasis on body reading, face reading and hands-on adjustments. She continues to learn from this expansive material. Katonah is very much a living, breathing thing.
Shaina’s believes one’s yoga practice is a recipe to develop techniques to connect with ourselves and ultimately propagate a conscious link between body, breath and mind. It is by going in, that we establish ways to better go out, building deep connection with others and the Earth that supports us. Katonah Yoga helps to reveal patterns, making the unconscious, conscious, cultivating emotional regulation in the process. This practice has changed her life and she aims to help others experience its magic as well.
Reconnect with your body and mind as you escape the noise of everyday life.
